Our Food & Cuisine
SOUL FOOD - created by enslaved Original African Americans during our enslavement on the plantation with minimal ingredients, and later perfected and popularized into American culture after the emancipation of our people after 1865.
Original African American Soul Food today is considered a delicacy by Americans of all races and ethnicities, and continues to be part of our culture during our family reunions and gatherings.
It includes several main course dishes such as yams, collard greens, macaroni and cheese, fried fish, ham and pork dishes such as chitterlings, corn bread, black-eyed peas, southern fried chicken, fried okra, potato salad, biscuits, gumbo soup & jambalaya from our Louisiana OAA community, as well as dessert dishes such as sweet potato pie, banana pudding, and drinks such as sweet tea and homemade lemon aid.

OAA MUSLIM CUISINE:
OAA / Black American Muslims subscribe to a Halal dietary law which influences food choices, ensuring that ingredients and preparation methods align with Islamic principles, following Islamic law and cultural practices such as NOT including pork or pork derived foods, while also including many of the traditional, southern Black Soul Food Cuisine historically passed down from our ancestors.
OAA Muslims have also created some of their own unique dishes such as Navy Bean Pie and Fish Soup eaten daily, as well as during family and religious gatherings such as during their Eid feast.
